Project summary

Maya is a California-based, minority owned and managed movie theater developer/operator with $138MM total assets and a portfolio of 325,000 square feet. Maya has a mission to improve lives of Latino working class families by bringing in commercial anchors to Latino communities.

 

Rise’s strategy & solution

Rise was engaged in 2013 as strategic financial advisor to assist in Maya’s growth plans. Our work involves assisting Maya in raising capital for its new locations, and identifying new, flexible lending and equity relationships. In 2015, to further Maya’s growth plans and mission, Rise assisted Maya and launched a new CDE platform: Maya CDE, which was awarded a $15 million NMTC allocation. Maya CDE’s mission is to target commercial and nonprofit anchors that operate in Latino communities.

 

rise’s distinctions

During this partnership and with the help of debt financing and NMTC allocations, Maya has built 3 new cinemas (doubling its portfolio) with 3 more underway and will renovate retail/parking at 1 existing cinema. Maya and Rise are exploring other capital options such as EB5 and Opportunity Zone capital.
